The Rothwell Baptist Church was founded November 5, 1950 with 35 charter members. Reverend A. P. Foster, Jr. served as pastor the first year. The church was located at 209 Rothwell Street. The church grew under the leadership of pastors, Dewey Norton, Carter Ramsey and Albert Crowe. During the ten years Rev. Crowe served (1956-1967), the church began a building fund and the present site was purchased and an education building with an interim sanctuary was erected.
From 1967 to 1969, Walter Perry served as pastor and from 1969 to 1972 Walter Carr, Sr. served. During this time the church voted to construct the sanctuary and groundbreaking services were held May, 1970. The church newsletter was established in October 1969. Terry Barry served as Director of Music from October 1969-1971. Rothwell Kindergarten was begun in February of 1970. Rothwell also began a private school in September 1971. Clark Card served as Minister of Music and Associate Pastor during 1972 while Dr. H. E. Gaddy served as Interim Pastor.
On December 29, 1972, Jesse W. Hilton was called as Pastor and served until January of 1979. The church grew substantially during this time. The private school was closed in July of 1974. Roger Ezell was called in January of 1977, as Associate Pastor and Minister of Youth and Music and served until January of 1980. Phil Ward served as Minister of Music from February of 1980 until December of 1984.
Bob Bolettieri served as Pastor from April of 1979 until April of 1982. Dr. Gaddy served again until Bro. Cowart started his ministry in April of 1983. Kenny Sellers served as Minister of Youth from 1983 until 1986. Warren Rogers served as Minister of Music and Youth from January 1985 until February 1990. Donald Caines served as Minister of Music from March 1990 to December 1993. Bill Webb came as Minister of Music and Youth in January 1994. Ira Carver retired in 1992 after over twenty years as Outreach Director, and Dean Holland retired in 1994 after over twenty years as church secretary.
